Chatrapati Shivaji born on February 19, 1630, Shivneri, Pune, India . Till date, the day is celebrated as shiv jayanti with great rigour and traditional style by Maharastrians. He is the founder of the Maratha kingdom of India. His father, Shahaji and mother, Jijabai.
He was one of the bravest rulers of India and was the first to realize the importance of having a naval force and established a navy and forts. To defend the konkan side of Maharastra, he established navy at the coastline. He was known as the father of Indian Navy.
The title Chatrapati was created by Shivaji upon his coronation which means a protector.
At the younger age, Chatrapati Shivaji established a strong army and had a great battle with nearer kingdoms and successfully achieved them.
His well executed administration along with strategic planning, led him to a road of victories.
Torna was Shivaji`s premiere conquest at the young age of 16.
To won over the Sinhagad fort, Tanaji lost his life. Fort this Shivaji Maharaj said, "We won the fort, but lost the lion"
Raigad was the capital of the Maratha Empire. Shivaji Maharaj breathed his last in this fort.
The Shivneri fort carries small temple of Goddess Shivai Devi after whom he was named.
Shivaji Maharaj was very powerful due to his deeds.
He captured nine forts to show his power.
